Gauta Jacob Nkoana:
born 04 December 1986 in Namakgale, Limpopo) is a South African football (soccer) Jacob affectionately known as "Mjika Jozi" to his supporters, for his great composure on the ball and the ability to turn defenders around. He was the best defender and midfielder at the SAFA/Transnet Sports School of Excellence and was the first in the history of the school to be the captain of the senior team and a head-boy of the school (the school that has produced the former defender of Chelsea FC and Westerlo FC “Jeffrey Ntuka” and the current midfielder at Everton FC “Steven Pienaar”).Jacob was the captain of the South African Under-20 squad at Botswana in the year 2005.
The Phalaborwa Sports Academy was formed in 2013. The Academy’s main purpose is to identify promising young soccer players and to train and develop them to become outstanding players to progress and play in the PSL teams Academy players are identified/selected through a scouting programme by the other academy scouts and coaches and are invited to train with the team to assess whether they match the standards of the Academy.
Phalaborwa Sports Academy is committed to providing equal opportunities to select learners who are talented in sport and as an institution. We will ensure quality development and coaching. We promise to deliver sound and well-groomed sport ambassadors to all South African soccer level and South African Football Association (SAFA) and Premier Soccer league affiliates (PSL), to contribute to soccer by maximizing opportunities for talented learners, particularly those who come from the previously disadvantaged communities.
One major condition which has been laid down by our Dutch partners has been an increase in the number of training sessions for the teams, and most importantly the non-participation of our Academy players in any other sport for any team, body or structure. This means therefore that all players that are referred and selected for the Academy will have to attend Academy training five times a week and will not participate in any other sport for either their schools or other clubs. Players will be compelled not to participate in any sport during their rest-day between the training sessions as it is vitally important that the players get adequate rest between the sessions. Players who do not rest are highly likely to become more injury prone and therefore cut short their promising soccer careers.
