Young Cranes arrive!

Uganda Under-17 side is expected to arrive in Lusaka today ahead of this Saturday’s 2011 African Under-17 Championship qualifier against Aggrey Chiyangi’s junior Chipolopolo slated for Nkoloma Stadium.

The young cranes who hold a 2-0 advantage from the first leg will train at the stadium tomorrow.

Chiyangi who is under pressure to overturn the scoreline and set up an encounter with holders Ghana in the next round has the services of Influential midfielder Nathan Bwalya who recently attended trials at Cercle Bruggle.

For the goals the former Zambia full back will be hoping Division 1 south Paramilitary’s Roy Sakwanda who was drafted to beef up the squad after Emmanuel Phiri of Nchanga Rangers was dropped after a poor show in Kampala comes to the fold especially in aerial tussle. Also red-hot Young Zanaco teenage Moses Phiri striker will be a good bet to watch.

The Junior Chipolopolo boys need to score three unanswered goals to stand a chance of advancing to the next round.

Meanwhile the Under-20 will clash again with Mauritius in the 2011 CAF African Youth Championship qualifier. The first leg will be played on July 24.

FIFA investigates Mbola transfer

WORLD football governing body FIFA has instituted investigations into the controversial transfer of Zambian defender Emmanuel Mbola (left) currently linked to three clubs.

Mbola, now with Democratic Republic of Congo side TP Mazembe, has a running contract with Armenia outfit Pyunik Yerevan.

Responding to a press query, the FIFA media department disclosed that they had a case pending regarding Mbola.

“FIFA does have a case pending regarding the player Emmanuel Mbola,” read the statement.

FIFA, however, declined to give further details saying the case was still under investigation.
“At this stage whilst the case is open and pending, unfortunately we cannot provide any further information,” the statement further reads.

FIFA noted that they expected the registration process to have been done between respective football mother bodies.

“Regarding the registration of the player, this would have been handled between the respective associations themselves,” FIFA stated.

Mbola recently joined TP Mazembe despite having a contract with Pyunik Yerevan that runs up to 2011.

However, Mbola’s dispute emerged after he had been invited for trials at Tottenham Hotspurs in England shortly after the Africa Cup of Nations in Angola.

Mbola’s former club Mining Rangers claimed ownership of the player, saying Pyunik forced the teenager to sign a contract without their consent.

Mining Rangers owner Elijah Chileshe, who along with Mbola’s father accompanied the player to Armenia to sign the contract, claimed the teenager signed the deal as a minor, contrary to FIFA regulations.

Zambia playmaker Rainford Kalaba is currently in Congo attempting to join TP Mazembe despite having contracts with Egyptian giants Zamalek and Portuguese side Sporting Braga.
